| Luc Lemaire
(Mathematics)
Luc Lemaire started his mathematical
career in a very European manner: a Licence in mathematics in Brussels
where he was born, followed by four years doctoral and post doctoral
work at Warwick University (England), four months at the Institut
des Hautes Etudes Scientifiques near Paris, then three months at
Bonn University. Back in Brussels, he is professor at the mathematics
department of the Université Libre, specialising in differential
geometry and the calculus of variations, and president of the mathematics
committee of the Fonds National belge de la Recherche Scientifique.
He is also vice president of the European Mathematical Society,
and in charge of the EMS Mathematical Summer Schools programme.
